Why Ice Clouds

Freezing water rejects impurities. As a cube freezes from the outside in, dissolved minerals (TDS) and dissolved air get pushed ahead of the freeze front and trapped in the center — that’s the white core in a standard cube. Clarity therefore has two levers:

  1. Directional freezing — freeze from one side only, so impurities exit into unfrozen water that gets discarded.
